Thinking of breeding from your bitch?

Puppies are adorable, fun and cute, they are also hard work, messy and demanding!!

There are a number of factors to consider before you breed:

Is your bitch healthy and fit? The correct weight? Innocculated and regularly wormed?

Do you have the time? It is a full time job, puppies cannot be left while you go to work, go on long shopping trips, or visit family and friends. They need to be watched and looked after almost constantly.

Do you have the money? Stud fees are expensive, correct worming regimes for mum and puppies, extra feed, full inoculation of pups (not just the cheap Parvovirus vaccination), permanent identification using microchip or tattoo, Kennel Club registration, vets fees and advertising.

There is also the washing machine that never stops, extra heating, sleepless nights and enormous amounts of soiled newspaper to dispose of.

Do you have the space? Puppies need space to play, they need a place to sleep without being disturbed by the rest of the household, can need easy access to the outdoors.

Do you have pre-booked homes for your puppies. Griffon Vendeens have large litters, we had 14 in one litter, all were in their new homes by the time they were 11 weeks, could you cope with unsold puppies?

Can you offer a comprehensive after sales service, giving new owners advice and support for the whole of the puppies life? Could you take a puppy back if circumstances change for the new owners?

These are just a few questions that need careful consideration; remember you are responsible for what you breed.
