The Petit Basset is an enchanting breed for the hound person. It has an enormous amount of charm and a very friendly outgoing character. He is a strong workmanlike little hound of moderate length, deep chested and firmly muscled.

He has a beautiful head with gentle, large oval eyes, large flared nostrils for scenting and fine well turned ears, not too long and covered with fine hair. He has a medium length tail, thick at the base and carried proudly like the blade of a sabre, he has a fairly short weather resistant coat. A particular feature is his lovely curling hair over the eyebrows, shielding but not obscuring the eyes, also a profuse beard and moustache.

The coat does not require a great deal of grooming. Combing and brushing will remove dead hair and dirt. The coat colour is white with lemon, orange, tricolour and grizzle markings.
