The Grand Basset has all the charm of the Petit but is more laid back, he is strong for his size. There are several differences between the two sizes of Basset Griffon Vendeen.

The Grand is a nobler headed hound, with longer ears and muzzle and is slightly roman nosed, with a more solemn expression. He has totally straight front forelegs, unlike the Petit, which may have a slight crook. His tail is longer but is also carried in sabre fashion. His coat may be slightly heavier, but again should be straight, harsh and weatherproof. He has the lovely eyebrows, beard and moustache.

The coat does not require a great deal of grooming. Combing and brushing will remove dead hair and dirt. The coat colour is white with lemon, orange, tricolour and grizzle markings.
