We thought you might like to read a few questions that are often asked of the breeds. We are happy to answer any other questions you may have. Please don't hesitate to contact us. Do they get on well with children? Yes BGVs are a happy breed and generally like children. They enjoy boisterous games children like to play, however they do need frequent rest periods when puppies. Do they get on well with cats? Generally speaking yes if reared with them as puppies. All our dogs tolerate our cat as the cat is the boss! Do they get on well with other dogs especially smaller breeds? Yes they have a kind nature, however they can be clumsy at times, care needs to be taken with younger and smaller dogs initially. Will they chase livestock? Our BGVs do not as they are used to sheep, cows etc. Early training is essential as in any breed to stop this behaviour. Will they come back if let off the lead? We exercise all our dogs on the beach and they all run free, however they are hounds with a good sence of smell and once on a scent it may be difficult to get them back immediately. Training to recall as soon as possible is essential. Are they easy to train? Yes as they love to please, and enjoy the attention training brings. Do they need much exercise? All dogs appreciate daily exercise, it promotes health and general well-being. Two walks a day plus free running will keep a BGV fit, and the owner! Do they need professional grooming? No, a good comb and brush 2-3 times weekly will keep the dog knot free. A trim around the eyes now and then is all that is needed. Nails need clipping once a month and ears need cleaning weekly. What does a microchip look like? We've been asked this question by a number of people and are working on getting an image published on our site. They are about the size of a grain of rice, so as you can imagine photographing or scanning one is difficult. We are in contact with Pet Detect to obtain some pictures - watch this space! |
